Our female stitchers now have a permanent spot to work together as a group in Lamu town. For many years the women working to make Ali Lamu bags would work out of their homes since they could not commute to Shela where our workshop is located. This made the process of making our bags very inefficient and quality control also very difficult.
With a location set up in Lamu town that serves as a partial workshop, the women can now commune and work together with supervision from Ali himself daily. This has improved a community spirit in the team and made our productions process much more efficient.
