Named after one of the founders, Ali Lamu the brand creates an eclectic collection of bags from recycled dhow sail or ‘tanga’ as it is known in Kiswahili. More recently, Ali Lamu has begun to experiment with an assortment of home accessories including wall decor.

Ali Lamu is a brilliant brand that captures your attention immediately, the hand painted large beach bags is perfect for everything. When you buy a bag you’re not just buying some canvas sewn together and painted, you’re buying an amazing piece of art. These bags are rich in history and visually appealing, their hand painted quality makes them unique and their beautiful colour makes them enticing and enchanting.

Ali Lamu is a special kind of brand; they started out in poverty and made canvas bags to help support the community. The story is touching really, and you can read it here http://brownbook.me/island-art/. Their slogan “love again forever whatever” captures peoples imagination and hearts and their cause is something to really believe in.
What I would love to adopt about Ali Lamu is their hand painted quality, its one thing to create a design but another to hand create it. Ali Lamu is raw and free form and the simple illustrations leap out at you like a puppy needing a hug; you just embrace it.
